Haven’t I Always

Promise you’ll remember the best of me,
try hard to forget the rest of me,
think of happy thoughts
and let your mind breathe.
Promise you’ll keep in mind the gladdest days,
and leave behind the baddest days,
think of happy thoughts
and then you’ll find me.

Don’t leave me in the dark,
keep me right there where you are
Haven’t I always been the one to watch over your heart?
Don’t count me out; I’m not done —
don’t set me aside, I haven’t yet begun —
Haven’t I always been the one?

Promise me you won’t give up
Promise me you’ll keep it up
Try to think of happy thoughts
and let your mind breathe.
Promise me you’ll try your hardest
Even when you cry the hardest
think of happy thoughts
and then you’ll find me.

You’ll find me in your quiet,
find me in your silence,
find me in your reverie,
among your memories.
Find me in your prayer,
close your eyes and I’ll be there,
find me anywhere,
just find me.

Don’t leave me in the dark,
keep me right there where you are
Haven’t I always been the one to watch over your heart?
Don’t count me out; I’m not done —
don’t set me aside, I haven’t yet begun —
Haven’t I always been the one?

About Catastrophe Jones

Wretched word-goblin with enough interests that they're not particularly awesome at any of them. Terrible self-esteem and yet prone to hilarious bouts of hubris. Full of the worst flavors of self-awareness. Owns far too many craft supplies. Will sing to you at the slightest provocation.
